Scorpion General Info
You can help deter scorpions by making sure the foliage outside is trimmed and not touching the building and that there is not debris near or against the building. Buildings are designed to breathe so there are still always little areas where scorpions can enter.
Scorpions exhibit what's called thigmotaxis - when resting, they prefer to be touching the surface below them and above them. As a result, they often shelter in gaps around doors and the gap between the fascia and the siding. With doors, they can end up inside when the door is opened or they can manage to squeeze all the way inside on their own. With the gaps between fascia and siding, they can end up in the attic. Once in the attic, they can drop through light or ceiling fan fixtures.
During our treatment, we treat all those gaps and can place a vapor insecticide strips in the attic. The vapor does not penetrate walls and is not strong enough to hurt people, but will kill scorpions and other insects sheltering in the attic. We prefer the vapor strips over dust, since they can be easily removed and aren't as messy.
