Equipment and Quantity

We have 3 pieces of equipment mainly that we use outside:

  1. Gas-powered mist blower that is used for mosquito control.
  2. Electric backpack sprayer (it's not a mist blower) that is used for our general pest control of which large cockroach species are included.
  3. Spreader which we use to apply granular insecticide or baits. And that is used sometimes for cockroach bait, cricket bait, fire ant bait, and sometimes for granular insecticide that's for scorpions as well.

Doing an exterior pest control treatment with the mist blower would use around 2 finished gallons of spray. While using the electric backpack will be around 3 gallons or more. This is because the droplet size of the mist blower is very small therefore you get coverage more easily. While the droplet size of the electric backpack sprayer is larger so we have to put out a little more volume to get the same coverage.

If we were targeting the large cockroach species like the American Cockroach, we would use the electric backpack sprayer outside and we could use either a pyrethroid in that or we could use the Alpine WSG which is more on the green side. We treat 6 foot out and 1 foot up the foundation. We treat the eaves, and entry points and then we would apply cockroach granular bait outside using the spreader. Depending on the situation, we may also need to treat inside at the entry points or sometimes specifically, in the plumbing areas. That would be with the hand sprayer or a foam where inside the plumbing areas would make foam. We may also need to put the plastic pest strips in the attic.

That would be kind of the overall approach and that would be for the large cockroach species. This would not work for the German cockroaches at all because that's going to be largely an inside-focused treatment. That's why we need to know what type of cockroaches you are are having issues with.

With regards to your question - can we only treat for cockroaches? The methods that Dr. Scott described above that we would use for targeting the large cockroach species would also be effective in providing control for all of the pests that we list in our general pest control service.
